Modelling Empowerment

Tyra Banks is not your average supermodel, she’s also the force behind modelling competition and hit show “America’s Next Top Model”. On the show, Tyra isn’t just a bright smile and pretty face, she’s known for her fierce personality an no bs attitude.

Having experienced first hand how cruel the modelling industry can be to young girls, Tyra has taken matters into her own hands, empowering women of all ages, races and sizes to be proud of who they are. She started The TZone Foundation in 1999, which helps women realize their dreams and ambitions, while embracing their body and mind.

The fashion industry can be very harsh, with issues of self-esteem and body image arising amoung men and women. Pressure to look a certain way, or feeling “not good enough” are common problems within the billion dollar business, that need to be addressed. Fashion today is much more than stick thin models wearing the hottest item. Fashion is an attitude and way of life, which Tyra helps women realize through her organization.

Encouraging girls and young women to get involved in organizations they feel strongly about, as well as allowing them to have a voice on issues that so often go unheard, are a few ways the Top Model mogul is making an impact.

Along with the organization, she recently applauded Vogue magazine’s international editors for turning away models who may look too thin, young, or unhealthy to be featured in their publication. She continues to encourage magazines to use real women as models to show that we can all be fierce, no matter if we’re a size 4 or 12.
