It’s hard not too feel behind when viewing the work of visionaries like Nick Knight. Over a decade after Knight launched SHOWstudio in 2000, Vimeo adds “Fashion” as a new category in it’s online film festival. Fashion Film is defined by Vimeo as “a video showcasing a fashion or beauty collection or trend with moving image” but the range of what is classified as a fashion film varies widely. The benefit to brands and designers is huge, film presents an opportunity to communicate more than a collection. It allows creative directors and designers tell a story and attach deeper emotion to the clothing. With the increase in affordable technology, we have a feeling this is just the beginning of fashion on film. As the Fashion industry is charged with the biannual task of reinventing itself we can’t wait to see how emerging designers will use this newly affordable medium.
